Can you wash a down and feather pillow?
Check the instructions for your particular pillow before adding water. Its filling alone does not tell you whether the finished pillow can be washed, and spot cleaning is different from soaking the whole pillow.
Can the whole pillow go in the wash?
Only when the instructions for that particular pillow allow it. Check whether the washing directions refer to a removable cover or to the whole pillow, then check the permitted drying method too.
Spot cleaning treats a small soiled area. A whole-pillow wash wets the filling as well as the cover, which makes drying a different task. NUVELL Soft and Firm are spot-clean only; their instructions are below.
Why a general washing recipe is not enough
Two pillows can contain down and feather but have different fabrics, internal seams, treatments and care instructions. Follow the label and manufacturer guidance for the complete product. A wash temperature printed for a removable cover does not automatically apply to the filling inside it.
If your pillow's instructions expressly allow washing, use the stated method, temperature and drying conditions. If instructions are missing or unclear, ask its manufacturer before washing it, including before using a delicate cycle.
Spot-cleaning a NUVELL Pillow
Remove the pillowcase and any separate protector, then clean only the soiled area with neutral detergent and water at 40°C or below. Clean only the marked area; do not soak the pillow to remove a mark. Wash the separate pillowcase and protector according to their own labels.
The pillow's sewn cotton cover contains its filling and is part of the pillow. Do not treat it as a removable pillowcase. For routine care, use a clean case, gently fluff the pillow and air it in a dry, shaded place.
Drying is part of the cleaning step
NUVELL's manufacturer permits tumble drying on low, below 60°C. Check that your dryer can meet that limit and follow its operating instructions. The pillow must be completely dry before you put it back into a case, use it or store it. Do not raise the heat to hurry the process.
There is no single drying time that suits every dryer or every damp patch. A dry-feeling surface does not confirm that moisture deeper inside has gone. If you are unsure how to meet the care instructions, contact NUVELL before proceeding.
Can a professional cleaner wash it instead?
The same limits apply at a cleaner’s: NUVELL pillows are spot-clean only. Do not machine wash or wet-clean the whole pillow, and do not dry-clean it. The manufacturer advises against whole-pillow washing because it can affect the fabric and filling.
If a NUVELL pillow is heavily soiled throughout, the manufacturer's advice is to replace it. Repeatedly wetting the whole pillow is not the recommended remedy. The replacement guide helps distinguish a local care issue from a pillow that needs replacing.
